Vadim Volkov — Rector of the European University at Saint-Petersburg
Vadim Volkov is the Rector of the European University at Saint-Petersburg since 2018 and Academic Director of the Institute for the Rule of Law of EUSP since 2009. Graduate of Faculty of Economics of the Leningrad (now Saint-Petersburg) State University, Volkov received his PhD in social and political sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1995. In 2005 he defended his thesis in economic sociology and received the degree of Doctor of Sociology in economic sociology. Since 1999 – professor of sociology of EUSP.
Volkov is currently a member of Expert Council of the Chairman of Accounting Chamber of the Russian Federation and vice-chairman of the Public Council of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russian Federation.
In 2016-2018 Volkov supervised the work on the concept of judicial reform at the Center for Strategic Research, for which he received a formal acknowledgement from the President of the Russian Federation.
His academic interests include the sociology of law, empirical-legal studies, economic sociology, theory and history of the state, comparative studies of organized crime.
Volkov worked as visiting professor at the University of Chicago and the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a member of Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
