Cilia Willem — Head of Studies of Journalism, Audio-Visual Communication and Public Relations at the University of Rovira i Virgili
Head of Studies for the Journalism graduate programme, as well as for the Audio-Visual Communication and Public Relations programmes. As a media scholar she started at the Interactive Media Lab (University of Barcelona) and taught there for over ten years, obtaining her PhD in 2010.
Dr. Willem has lead, managed and participated in national & international research projects such as H2020, 7FP, and Erasmus+. Her research career started in 2004 as the coordinator of three subsequent action-research projects in the European Media Literacy Programme, focussing on the representation and participation of migrants and ethnic minorities in the media. From 2014 through 2020 she was the main Editor for the Catalan Journal of Communication & Cultural Studies, committed to publishing research on the analysis of media, communication and Cultural Studies in the broadest possible sense.
Her current research interest lies in the intersection of gender, class, and race as markers of identity in social communication. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on these topics, and participates at international conferences and events. She is a member of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), the Spanish Communication Research Association (AE-IC) and the Roots & Routes International network.
