Career:
Avdotya Smirnova worked as a journalist at Kommersant, as book reviewer for Afisha magazine and Stolitsa magazine
In the early 1990s, she began writing screenplays for feature and documentary films
1992: the first film based on her screenplay was released, Last Hero, a documentary by Alexey Uchitel, about the leader of the Kino band Viktor Tsoi

Butterfly (1992), Gisele's Mania (1995), 8 1/2 $ (1999), His Wife's Diary (2000), The Stroll (2003), Gloss (2007).
The film 8 1/2 $, directed by Grigory Konstantinopolsky, won The Golden Ram award from the Russian Guild of Film Critics
2006: Avdotya Smirnova directed her first film, Relations, which won the Kinotavr festival prize for Best Debut Film

The film won Grand Prix of the Golden Phoenix festival in Smolensk and the special prize at the film forum in Tashkent (Uzbekistan, 2013)
2002-2014: co-hosted, with writer Tatyana Tolstaya, the Shkola Zlosloviya (School for Scandal) talk show on the NTV channel
2004: published the book Kukhnya Shkoly Zlosloviya with Tatyana Tolstaya.
2012: founded the Vykhod (Way Out) Foundation for Autism in Russia
